The technology tree is one of the main mechanics of Frostpunk, after building a Workshop and employing engineers there, the Technology Tree will be unlocked, which will allow you to create and develop ideas on new buildings and improvements for your city. It could be considered the most important mechanic of the game for sustaining your city, since you need to research in order to unlock buildings that produce resources infinitly. There are three main tabs in the technology tree that are shared between scenarios: Heating, Resources and Food, Health & Shelter. Most scenarios also have the Exploration and Industry tab, but The Last Autumn instead has the Generator Construction tab

The tree is organized into tiers, which require to be researched in order to unlock their technologies going from tier 0, which is always available, to tier 5. You also need the previous technology for the ones that are part of a "branch". Technology and tiers require materials to be researched. Some scenarios have different technologies that are exclusive to them or are unlocked after a specific event, as specified in their description. The technologies in the list below are split into the ones from The Last Autumn and the ones from the rest of scenarios (Endless scenarios use the same tech tree as A New Home, except for the Stereoscopic Lenses and Outpost Depot, which are not available on Endless mode)

Seam Hub[edit | edit source]

Allows you to build Steam Hubs, which create heat zones around them that have the same heat level as the Generator's one.

Steam Hub Range Upgrade[edit | edit source]

Requires Steam Hub. Tier 2

Unlocks the option to individually expand the range of Steam Hubs up to 50% more than the original one, while consuming twice as much coal.

Steam Hub Efficiency Upgrade[edit | edit source]

Requires Steam Hub Range Upgrade. Tier 4

Reduces the amount of coal consumed by Steam Hubs by a 33%

Generator Power Upgrade[edit | edit source]

Allows to increase the temperature in heat zones by 1 while increasing the coal consumption by 6 (to a total of 12/hour)

Reduces the coal consumption of the Generator by 10%

Generator Efficiency Upgrade II[edit | edit source]

Requires Generator Efficiency Upgrade. Tier 4

Reduces the coal consumption by 10%, to a total of 20% with its previous technology

Overdrive Couplings[edit | edit source]

Requires Generator Power Upgrade. Tier 2

Allows to increase the temperature level in all heat zones by 2 instead of 1 when using the Generator's overdrive mode

Generator Safety Bypass[edit | edit source]

Requires Overdrive Couplings. Tier 5

The stress produced in the Generator when using the overdrive mode will increase 25% slower and fall 25% faster
